The VT madness has cooled down a bit since its peak point last year, but we’re still seeing models pop up here and there with the vacuum packed looked. This pair that never made it past the sample stage is the latest to show its face, most likely a relic from the first go-round that hit us in 2011. It takes the slightly weathered approach featured in the original run and cranks it up quite a bit, with the velvet brown tones on this Nike Air Max 90 VT getting an almost rusty look. I think it’s safe to say these wouldn’t have been the biggest sellers, but they’d certainly be a nice edition to someone’s collection. If you’re that someone, and you don’t mind paying for shipping, grab your pair here.

Reebok hit a home run with the eye-catching comfort of their ZigTech line, and given that they once took Nike to court claiming to have been working on barefoot-mimicking soles even longer than the Swoosh, it’s natural that the Zigs’ success will beget further technological innovation. The Reebok RealFlex Racer features 76 independent pods on its soles for a ride that safely emulates running au natural and the RealFlex Mid puts a hiking boot twist on the design but ends up closer to a John Wall basketball model thanks to a lightweight synthetic upper.

This new release in collaboration with her Beijing boutique isn’t likely to make Chinese pop star Bibi Bichang a household name over here, but you can bet that every New Balance aficionado in the known world is talking about her right now. That’s because the Begins x New Balance 574 Sonic manages a magnificent balance between classic NB suede and mesh goodness, and today’s fabrication methods and energetic colourways. Using the introduction of Flyknit technology as a spring board, Nike is bringing back the Nike Woven, a design feature with some similarities to the Flyknit, this year. Besides the soon-to-be-available Air Woven, Nike will also add the distinctive braided upper design to the Street Gato silhouette, best known as a versatile alternative to soccer boots, appointed with luxurious basket-weave design in premium leather, the Nike Woven Street Gato isn’t just a mere performance footwear but a lifestyle one too. Part of Nike Sportswear collection for Spring/Summer 2012, the Nike Woven Street Gato will be available in Black/Medium Brown, Baroque Brown/Yellow, and Summit White/Solar Red.

President Obama sure is rolling in the sneaker swag this year, having already picked up a pair from Spike Lee and now set to receive another from US Representative Michael Michaud. This time around he will be blessed with a pair of hand-made in the US New Balance 990′s, complete with ‘President Obama’ stitching around the heel area of the clean grey design. The gift comes from rep Michaud to remind Obama of America’s footwear industry, carrying with it the hope of switching military contracts over to buy domestically made goods more exclusively.

Although this new adidas Originals Superstar 80s‘ timing and green/orange/white colour scheme suggests a weird Irish theme, the colour code suggests inspiration from the world’s largest body of water. This Miami Dolphins-leaning Shelltoe adds Half Orange stripes to its Big Sur suede body, a colour named for the notoriously beautiful coastal California town whose cliffs provide a breathtaking view of the Pacific you’ve probably seen in car commercials. The premium construction and German origin on these equates roughly to a top-tier Volkswagen, but you can grab these ‘Big Sur’ Superstar 80s at a much more affordable price from Sweden’s SNS.
